As the holidays began to dominate, I find myself in-between writing projects. Actually, I’m in the midst of brain-storming a new Urban Fantasy series. If I’m successful, then it should be making its initial appearance around mid-2020. For those that know me and my love of check-list, you will not be surprise at my accomplishments post Turky Haze:
- Cleaned out kitchen cabinets. It amazes me how much of the garage migrates to the kitchen under the guise of “Junk Drawers”.
- Re-configured front room. Now instead of being slapped in the face by a room holding furniture, it’s an actual homey front room. And thanks to Prankster Duo #2 (aka Engineering Master), the pictures are now level and not enabling my eye twitch.
- Operation Christmas decor completed successfully. Although some ornaments were recently lost under the siege of Fur Minxes.
- Wall of Fame updated. (see below)
- Closet Cleanout accomplished. Well, at least on my half. As for Knight’s…eh, it may still happen.
But there’s one thing I do while between writing projects. Read. Not just my favorite and familiars, but I try out some new names. I figured in honor of the giving spirit of the season, I’d share some recommendations. Before you venture forth, may I offer a word of advice: my preferences may not be yours.
Now that you’re forewarned, my I present…
Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental Mysteries and Elemental World books. Here’s the thing, I’ve always loved Elizabeth Hunter. From her paranormal romance series of Cambio Springs to her Urban Fantasy/PNR series, the Irin Chronicles, and even her contemporary romance of Love Storied from 7th and Main. I had started the Elemental Mysteries series, but for some reason stalled out at the third book. Who knows why, because I’ve been devouring the remainder of the series and stuffing my brain with the Elemental World spin-off. The characters hold a depth created by a fascinating mix of humor and heart-ache, and poignancy that will leave you jonesing for more.
A young student librarian is thrown into the immortal world when she takes a job from a mysterious Italian scholar, Giovanni Vecchio. Beatrice is drawn to the mystery–and her new employer–but can she survive a vampire world ruled by power, politics, and blood-lust? How far will they go to find a library missing for five hundred years? CLICK HERE for A HIDDEN FIRE
Next up is a fun and flirty contemporary romance. These were quick reads for me and despite having to just go with the flow on some things, I enjoyed Kylie Scott’s introduction to her Stage Dive Series with LICK. Who doesn’t like the misunderstood rock band bad boys?
Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened. CLICK HERE FOR LICK
I went back to my favor genre, Urban Fantasy, and got trapped into the interesting universes of both Dannika Dark’s Crossbreed Series with KEYSTONE, with the kick-butt heroine we’re used to seeing.
Raven Black hunts evildoers for fun, but her vigilante justice isn’t the only reason she’s hiding from the law. Half Vampire, half Mage, she’s spent years living as a rogue to stay alive. When a Russian Shifter offers her a job in his covert organization hunting outlaws, dignity and a respectable career are finally within her grasp. The catch? Her new partner is Christian Poe – a smug, handsome Vampire whom she’d rather stake than go on a stakeout with. CLICK HERE FOR KEYSTONE.
Then there’s KF Breene’s Demigods of San Francisco’s SIN AND CHOCOLATE, which so far is keeping me reeled in. It’s a little different and took a few pages, but it’s got me so we’ll see how long it keeps me.
Those people usually have a lot of drama in their life. Drama I happily do without. I live in a forgotten corner of nowhere for a reason: there is safety in anonymity. I have enough problems just trying to get by. But when Kieran, a sinfully sexy demigod at the pinnacle of power, crashes into my life, suddenly my whole world is turned upside down. I also stuck with some tried and true authors like Cherise Sinclair’s second installment of her Sons of the Survivalist series, LETHAL BALANCE. Then Lexi Blake released her third book in The Forgotten series, LOSS IN YOU. There was also Natasha Water’s military romance, CRICKET UNDER FIRE. I found Charlaine Harris’s newest series, Gunnie Rose, that I somehow missed: AN EASY DEATH. I’ve got Faith Hunter’s latest Jane Yellowrock waiting for when I have uninterrupted time to indulge: SHATTERED BONDS.
Now that I’ve got fixes for my reading addiction, I should be good. For a little while. Feel free to indulge. And while you’re at it, go ahead and share your favorite indulgences this holiday season! We can all use more books for our piles!
